Environmental Destruction

According to the project map, the proposed bypass construction would include the clearing of a tract of virgin wetlands that houses many species of plants and animals identified as threatened or endangered in Missouri.

Project Bypass Route (partial)

The destruction of the local ecosystem (denial of sunlight, destruction of wildlife, pollution) will spread quickly to the parts of the woods not directly cleared, removing the source of fresh air that counteracts the sewer line running almost parallel with the bypass route. Additionally, many species of animals that have used that forest as a home since before our nation was founded will simply cease to be, gone for good.

The Missouri Coalition for the Environment is working on getting this project stopped. The Coalition works very hard to save heavily forested wetlands like this, but they say they need people to make noise and be heard, too.
